About Me

My name is Chris and I was a secondary maths teacher from 1994 to 2009, teaching at grammar schools, comprehensives and independent schools in England.

Between 2009 and 2022 I worked for the online maths learning platform Mangahigh, developing maths content and training maths teachers. I’ve also written teacher guides for Oxford University Press, online maths textbooks and have been tutoring for over 30 years.

I tutor groups of up to 4 students of the same age/ability either online or from my home.

You can expect to pay £70 to £80 an hour for one-to-one tutoring from a top tutor. My rate of £30 per hour makes quality tutoring more affordable and students benefit from working alongside others.

I’ve tutored one-on-one, small groups, large groups, I’ve even run all day revision sessions for GCSE and A level, delivering to more than 100 students at a time.

There is no one teaching style that suits every student, it’s the teacher/tutor’s role to find the right way to help the student feel confident and grasp the concepts. If the student doesn’t understand something, the teacher has to find a different way to explain it.

My favourite quote is by Benjamin Franklin, and I don’t think a truer word was every said about learning:

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”. It’s not enough to simply tell you something and practice until you get it right, a week later you’ll probably forget it. To really be confident you need to UNDERSTAND what you’re learning, and to do this you need to be involved in your own learning. That’s how I run my tuition sessions.

After a tuition session with me, you’ll have been stretched, you’ll be tired, you’ll feel more confident.

I tutor Key stage 2, 3, 11+, Common Entrance, GCSE, A level maths, IB and adults. I’m familiar with all the UK examination boards and past exam papers.

You won’t find a more experienced and better tutor anywhere.
